THE NEW YORK TIMES, The Hottest Body Part? For a Sapiosexual, It’s the Brain, 6/2/17:

In a society obsessed with physical appearance, sexual attraction for some people is based
on intellect, and not necessarily on looks.

For Mr. Okeke-Diagne, being sapiosexual means intellectual conversation is a key part of dating and sex. While some couples might exchange racy photos or texts, he once sent a woman he was seeing a multipage erotic story he had written that included references to the Julian calendar, the decimal system and global climate change. Writing the story was such a turn-on for him that he tried to find similar erotica online — with little success…See the full article here

BUSTLE, The Reason Meeting People In Real Life May Make Them More Attractive, 6/15/17:

Research from the University of Kansas that will be published in the Communication Studies Journal found that meeting people in real life can make a big difference. Students were asked to rank 10 photos again in terms of attractiveness — then they met one of the people from the photos in real life for a chat. After talking and getting to know each other, they were asked to rank all 10 photos again. What did they find? That the attractiveness ranking went up, but only for the person they spoke to in real life. Interestingly, people who had low-to-mid rankings to begin with tended to get a bigger bump…See the full article here

MEN’S HEALTH, The Online Dating Mistake That’s Wrecking Your Chances Of an Awesome Match, 6/15/17:

Researchers recruited a group of 152 adults, and told them they were going to pilot a new dating website. The participants were split among how many potential matches popped up on their site: Some saw just six choices, while the others were shown 24. Then, they chose their potential date.

One week later, online daters given a large pool of potential matches were less satisfied with their choice than those who chose from a small set, the study found…See the full article here

ONLINE PERSONALS WATCH, Wingman Survey: Millennials Think They Are Excellent Matchmakers, 5/23/17:

According to Wingman‘s recent survey, 90% of millennials would enjoy playing matchmaker for their friends. 70% said they thought the matches they would make for their friends would be better than if they pick their own dates. Wingman is not a dating app, but rather a growing community of “matchmakers” who want to do something good for a single friend…See the full article here

5 Ways to Win An Argument In A Relationship

It’s happened– your Springtime in Paris new relationship has hit a significant bump in the road. You’re feeling the urge to say something 180 degrees from “you’re just so perfect and amazing” to your new love interest. Congratulations– this is your first opportunity for a growth power-up!

Quell the impulse to text “We need to talk.” If you’ve already typed it in, with your thumb hovering above “send,” aim for “delete” instead. No one wants to read that; no one wants to be forewarned of impending doom unless they’re watching a movie. You’ll only succeed in spurring the imminent arsenal of defense…

GIVE ME EVERYTHING YOU AM: “Love Again” by Run The Jewels

The other week, I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who is a new father – we’ll call him Cronus – and we were talking about parental instinct. He lowered his voice conspiratorially, considered the infant in his lap and said, “Sometimes I love my baby so much that I want to eat him. Is that normal?”

Turns out, it’s not just normal–it’s science! Olfactory chemical signals–the smells of newborn babies have been linked to dopamine spikes in the brains of new mothers, essentially triggering the same neurological reward circuit activated when a very hungry person eats, or when a heroin addict shoots up…

5 Ways to Avoid the Cliff of Contemporary Dating

I have a friend who dates online… a lot. You could say she’s popular. She gets out again and again because she’s fabulous–which is obvious, even through a screen. Yet she arrives each time preloaded with every personal detail about her date–their hometown, full legal name, and family history–often even their annual income and whether or not they rent or own. IT IS RIDICULOUS. The internet is a fantastic tool for writing a thesis, but should it be used to compose a 15-page, pre-introduction memoir on a potential romantic interest’s life story?…
