How to Delete Facebook Dating: Protect Your Privacy
A while back, a Tawkify client I’ll call Renee mentioned she’d finally deleted her Facebook Dating profile. She’d kept it around out of habit, but having her dating life bolted onto the same account as her family photos and old coworkers had started to feel like a privacy problem. She isn’t alone.
If you’re ready to do the same, here’s how to delete your Facebook Dating profile, what happens to your data when you do, and what’s worth trying instead.
Only you know what’s best for you, but most people who leave Facebook Dating do it for one of a few reasons:
Privacy and data
Facebook Dating runs on your main Facebook account, and Facebook shares data with advertisers, so some people would rather not tie their dating life to it at all.
Keeping things separate
Because Dating pulls from your profile, hometown, and interests, plenty of people prefer to keep their Facebook activity and their dating activity in separate lanes.
It isn’t working
If you’re not meeting the kind of people you’re looking for, that’s reason enough to move on.
You found someone
The happiest reason of all, and a great cue to close the app for good.
How to Delete Your Facebook Dating Account
Deleting your Facebook Dating profile takes about a minute. Here’s the current process:
Open the Facebook app, tap Menu in the bottom right, then tap Dating.
Tap Settings in the top right.
Tap Delete Profile.
Confirm by tapping Delete Profile again.
You can delete your Dating profile without deleting your main Facebook account, though deleting your Facebook account will also remove your Dating profile.
What Happens After You Delete Your Facebook Dating Profile
Deleting your profile removes all of the following, and none of it can be recovered:
Your profile and answers
Your Dating profile and every prompt answer you wrote are permanently erased from Facebook Dating.
Your matches and likes
Every match and like is cleared, and you’re unpaired from everyone you’d connected with.
Your conversations
Your chats disappear from your side, but each match keeps their copy, so they can still read the messages you sent.
You’ll also need to wait seven days before you can create a new profile.
When you’re looking for a relationship, there’s no comparison
Tired of swiping with no real connections? Tawkify takes a fresh approach to the process. With handpicked matches tailored just for you and personalized introductions, we do the work so you can focus on what matters — meaningful connections.

Prefer to Pause?
If you’re not ready to delete for good, Facebook Dating has offered a “take a break” option that stops new matches while keeping your existing profile and matches intact. You’ll find this in your settings as well.
What to Try Instead of Facebook Dating
For a lot of people, deleting Facebook Dating solves the privacy worry but not the underlying one, which is that swiping hasn’t led anywhere. If that’s you, the fix isn’t another app; it’s a different approach.
With Tawkify’s matchmaking process, a dedicated matchmaker does the searching and vetting; every match is hand-screened, and introductions are chosen for compatibility rather than a swipe. The whole search stays private, with no public profile tied to your social media. Around 80% of the people who work with us find success, and their success stories show what that looks like.
Delete Facebook Dating on Your Own Terms
Deleting Facebook Dating is quick and easy, but permanent: your profile, matches, likes, answers, and conversations are gone, and you’ll have to wait a week before you can try again.
If you’re leaving because the app never delivered, talk to a matchmaker and find out what real, hands-on matchmaking feels like.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does deleting Facebook Dating delete my Facebook account?
No. Deleting your Facebook Dating profile removes only your Dating profile, not your main Facebook account. The reverse isn’t true, though: if you delete your whole Facebook account, your Dating profile goes with it.
Can you recover a deleted Facebook Dating profile?
No. Unlike deactivating your main Facebook, which you can undo, deleting your Facebook Dating profile is permanent. Your profile, answers, likes, matches, and conversations are gone and can’t be restored, so it’s worth being sure before you confirm.
How long before you can make a new Facebook Dating profile?
Seven days. The wait applies even if you deleted your profile by accident, which is one more reason not to delete on a whim. Try sooner, and you may see a “Limit reached” message telling you that you can’t create a new Dating profile because you deleted your account in the last seven days.
Will my matches know I deleted Facebook Dating?
They won’t get a notification, and your profile stops appearing to them. They will, however, still be able to see the messages the two of you already exchanged, since deleting on your end doesn’t remove them from theirs.
